紅型(びんがた)展によせて

　沖縄の紅型は、琉球王国が東南アジアや中国、日本との交易によって育んだ染色文化です。海を越えてもたらされた布や文様は、沖縄で独自の美へと昇華されました。本展では、その伝統を受け継ぎながら現代を描く金城宏次氏の作品をご紹介します。

　Okinawan Bingata is a dyeing tradition that developed through the Ryukyu Kingdom’s trade with Southeast Asia, China, and Japan. Fabrics and patterns brought across the sea were transformed into a unique form of beauty in Okinawa. This exhibition features the works of Koji Kinjo, who carries on this tradition while expressing the contemporary world through his art.
